Unique designs in hand dug wild clay

I am a Sheffield-based potter with a deep passion for working with wild, locally sourced clay. I gather clay wherever it reveals itself—local building sites, roadworks, and new extensions are some of my favourite discoveries.
My ceramic journey began over 25 years ago. After a long hiatus, I rediscovered my love of clay and now spend many happy hours creating in my small WWII bunker—hence the name Bunkerpots.
All of my wild clay is processed entirely by hand, a time-intensive practice involving drying, crushing, soaking, and careful sieving to achieve a workable consistency. It is laborious, messy work, but the results speak for themselves. Once fired, the clay reveals remarkable character, producing colours that range from warm terracotta at lower temperatures to deep, rich plum tones at stoneware temperatures.
Each batch of clay is unique, which adds to the joy of creating. I feel a strong connection to the clay I dig and prefer to keep wild clay forms simple, echoing the way people have worked with earth for millennia.
Alongside this, I also create bright, playful pieces, enjoying the use of colourful glazes and surface textures. Everything I make is driven by curiosity and a genuine love of transforming the honest, ancient material beneath our feet into objects that are both beautiful and timeless.
